In 1975, one of the craters on Mercury was named after Taras Shevchenko.
1384 – this is the number of monuments to Taras Shevchenko erected in the world. Out of these, there are 1256 monuments in Ukraine, and other 128 in 35 countries – Brazil, the USA, China, etc.
Kobzar received his basic education for only 2 years in a parochial school. The poet owes much of his knowledge to Baroness Sofiia Hryhorivna Engelhardt, who taught him Polish and French, but Taras received his basic knowledge of languages from the footmen.
2500 rubles – the equivalent of 45 kilograms of silver – was the amount spent to buy the poet out of serfdom. Karl Bryullov was able to earn such a fantastic sum by painting a portrait of Vasil Zhukovskyi and selling it at auction. According to some reports, part of the money was provided by the imperial family. The Empress Alexandra Feodorovna herself allocated 400 rubles, and the heir to the throne Alexander II and Princess Elena Pavlovna allocated 300 rubles each.
